About the author

Kevin Maddy was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1958. He spent his formative years as a musician, training at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and playing on a sessional basis with professional orchestras. At the age of 21 he began training for priesthood in the Church of England and he has served as a priest and chaplain since his priestly ordination in 1986. After fifteen years of chaplaincy in the Royal Air Force, he joined the Royal Army Chaplains’ Department for four years, subsequently completing his time as a full-time chaplain with the Mission to Seafarers in Yokohama, Japan. On returning to the UK, he was parish priest to two parishes in Barnsley and since 2014 has been parish priest of St Stephen’s Canterbury and chaplain to The Archbishops’ School. His many interests include music, poetry, cultural studies and dog walking. He is a Benedictine oblate, has trained in spiritual direction with the Franciscans and is about to embark on a year-long study of Ignatian spirituality.
